Beginning in 1875, the Kentucky Derby is the oldest continuously running sporting event in the nation. Put on your fanciest hat and join us as historian Leslie Goddard traces the history of the Derby and the traditions that make it so beloved. This presentation at the Jacob Henry Mansion in Joliet includes a self-guided tour and a fantastic lunch featuring the Derby’s famous Hot Brown. This hot, open-faced turkey sandwich is topped with bacon, tomato and a mornay sauce with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, complemented by potato wedges. A fresh tossed garden salad, warm rolls, whipped butter, dessert, coffee or tea are also included. There is a cash bar available for other beverages. Moderate walking is involved with this trip. Registration/cancellation deadline: April 11 (spaces permitting). Transportation provided via Park District van.
Registration for this program/event begins at 9:00am on 12/5 for residents and 12/12 for non-residents.
