Day Trip: Max & Benny’s and Holocaust Museum
February 15, 2023 @ 10:15 am - 10:15 pm
Sec.# | Day | Date | Time | Fee |
01 | Wed. | 2/15 | 10:15am – 5:30pm | $55/$60 (1 day) |
We will start our day at Max and Benny’s in Northbrook, the ultimate deli-restaurant experience in the Chicago area! We will visit the deli counter and bakery before enjoying lunch. Build your own sandwich starting with fresh-baked rolls or bread topped with deli meats and assorted cheeses. Sides include chopped liver, potato salad, coleslaw and green salads. End your meal with a sweet treat of fruit or assorted cookies and brownies. After lunch, we will head to Skokie to the Illinois Holocaust Museum for docent-guided tours of two exhibits. The Karkomi Holocaust Exhibition explores pre-war European life, the rise of Nazism, the Holocaust, and the post-war experiences of survivors. The second exhibit, the Negro Motorist Green Book, explains the annual guide created in 1936 by Harlem postman Victor Green that provided African American travelers with information on businesses that welcomed Black travelers during the Jim Crow era. We’ll end our day with the Abe & Ida Cooper Survivor Stories Experience, an interactive 3D hologram, listening to Auschwitz survivor Fritzie Fritzshall as she recounts her harrowing story of the Holocaust.
Registration deadline: February 3 (spaces permitting). Transportation provided via Park District van.
