Built between 1928 and 1930, the Strong Castle was the summer home of Walter Strong and his family. This 80 year old building is designed to represent a traditional Tudor-style manor house. It boasts 10 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms and a secret passage or two! The tour includes information about the Strong family, the process of building their castle and brief touches of depression era history. Attendees also get a glimpse into castle structure and medieval life. After the tour we will enjoy our lunch of chicken fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, roasted veggies, dinner rolls and dessert. Drinks include water, lemonade and coffee. Weather permitting, you will have time to explore the grounds. Considerable walking is involved with this trip. To enter the tower, many stairs are involved. Registration/cancellation deadline: March 26 (spaces permitting). Transportation provided via Park District van.
